Som é imagem é som
A conversão da experiência
contemporânea ao digital é inegável, o
carácter nomádico das (novas) tecnologias transformou-se
em total ubiquidade e, actualmente, tudo pode ser pensado em termos de
zeros e uns, de informação, na sua versão mais
desencorpada e abstracta. Nesse sentido, onde se posiciona a
diferença aparentemente ontológica entre som e imagem,
entre ver e ouvir?
Sound Visions pretende exemplificar este
esboroar de especificidades entre duas modalidades distintas de acesso
ao real. André Gonçalves e André Sier trabalham a
partir da zona em que é impossível distinguir onde
começa uma e termina a outra. Recorrem, de forma
idiossincrática, a cada uma das modalidades para estimular a
outra, provocando uma indefinição generalizada, a partir
da qual não é mais possível aferir o que é
causa e o que é efeito, se é o som que gera a imagem, ou
se, por sua vez, se são os aspectos visuais que provocam os
efeitos sonoros que se podem ouvir. A espiral é infinta, som
gera imagem que gera som de novo, que dará origem a novas
imagens, replicando-se o sistema, constantemente em
interacção com o espectador, que acaba por ser puxado
para o centro dos acontecimentos e que se se constitui como elemento
central do projecto.
Sound Visions é um projecto
desenvolvido especificamente pelo Upgrade! Lisbon para a Sala do Risco
e para o Village Gallery.

Sound Visions
Sound is image is sound
Contemporary experience's conversion to
digital is undeniable, the nomadic aspect of (new) technologies has
become complete ubiquity and today everything can be thought of as
zeros and ones, as information in its most abstract and immaterial
version. Having that in mind what happens to the apparently ontological
difference between sound and image, audition and vision?
Sound Visions intends to show this
crumbling down of the differences between these two distinct modes of
acess to reality. André Gonçalves and André Sier
work from that place where it is impossible to define where one strats
and the other ends. They use each one of those modes to stimulate the
other, causing a generalized undefinition, from which it is no longer
possible to tell what is cause and what is effect, if it the sound
generating the images or if it is the images that are causing the
sounds. The spiral is endless, sound is generating images that
generates sound that again generates new images. the system replicates
itself, always in interaction with the audience, pulled into the vortex
of events taking place.
