ANDRE SIER (media artist, Lisbon, Portugal)
Imaginary Media (√(-art))
In his talk Andre Sier speaks about his artistic work based on code and interactivity.
„Let us consider, for a moment, the square root of negative art being imaginary media. Computers often express a strict degree of formalism, whereas any wrong/creative instruction might jeopardize or even collapse the stability of the system. Imaginary numbers, within mathematics, are born from an expressed logical impossibility, and through this systemic collapse they edify essential mathematical methods into the imaginary realm. Similarly, exploring arts with computers, seeking other than reality “imaginary media”, through projects that integrate real-time and interactive sciences & arts, interlinking computer engineering, music, painting, sculpture, interfaces, narrative, dexterity, logic, videogames, in order to provide a virtual time-space continuum closer to the experience of imaginary yet tangible realities. Cathartic otherness artistic laboratories, in construction over the past 20 years, entangling myths, beasts and machines, through them you are invited to: Skate your way through fairy tales; Dragon fly the late Anthropocene; Time-travel through a tetrahedron to Atlantis; Link up with your wolf pack rebuilding a planetary network; Inhabit binary and biological architectures; Sound mate and mutate a plant with electronics over your smartphone collaboratively.“ (André Sier)
André Sier works artistically with code and interactive media at s373.net/x studios, where he combines videogames, installations, painting, sculpture, music, mathematics and computation into objects and experiences of electronic arts, merging mythology, interfaces, generative interactive space- time continuums, non human human art sci constructs. In the past 21 years has produced objects and serial interactive work that playfully unravel time and space relations, synthesized on electronic substrates, shown at over 27 individual national and international exhibitions. André Sier is an electronic artist trained in sciences, arts, computing, with a degree in philosophy, lecturing in electronic arts, pursuing PhD in technoetic arts.
