19,20,21 September, André Sier had the pleasure to exhibit "Esculturas Generativas" (Generative Sculptures) @ Lisbon Mini Maker Faire, featuring new and old s373.net/x special code to algorithmically generate sculptures printed on plastic on a modified prusa 3d printer.
Series shown include Autómatos Universais, Heliades, Sol, and a recent and fun code that took over visitors at the stand called Eu-Abstracto, where people are digitised artistically through a 3d camera connected to a linux computer running Eu-Abstracto software developed by André Sier at s373.net/x art codex studios.
What started out as an empty table section on the 20th September, soon gave rise to 50+ abstract portraits by the end of the 21st. All portraits were executed at the Lisbon Mini Maker Faire featuring several grown and young visitors, single, pairs, families, groups of friends.
This series of sculptures is the opposite of accurate digitising, while yielding similar results -- people are asked not to stand still, but to move and to make expressions related to their personality, while being digitised. Then, after a sequence of movement is acquired through Eu-Abstracto software, frames are meshified in volumetric space and modified artistically, subsequently scaled in Blender and sent to Cura for 3d printing.
All 250 flyers with information about the pieces just flew away in the hands of many visitors, as well as some sample sculptures with approximately 2.5cm height which many lucky people could take home with them, so here is a pdf version of the flyer in case you wanted one but couldn't get it.

Many visitors enjoyed and ordered Eu-Abstracto portrait sculptures, now being made in bigger dimensions circa 12-16cm height, and in case you want one, time/space is limited, do get in touch!
The project "Esculturas Generativas" won a Maker Faire award at the end of the event! ESCULTURAS GENERATIVAS
Desde 2010 que o artista André Sier desenvolve Esculturas Generativas usando os seus programas que criam esculturas tridimensionais numa impressora que montou na altura. O código é realizado em ambientes open-source (processing e openFrameworks) recorrendo a bibliotecas s373.net/x criadas pelo autor e disponibilizadas de forma open-source (http://s373.net/code) para que outros makers possam utilizar nos seus trabalhos. As esculturas alicerçam-se em processos algoritmos generativos que têm por base movimentos de enxames e autómatos celulares que criam modelos matemáticos tridimensionais que refletem movimentos orgânicos da natureza e artísticos acumulados em espaços escultóricos.
