Selected for the art and science Expand project, André Sier developed and finalized Ant Ennae Labyrinths, a bio-electronic work where electronics, lasers and computer programming interact with ants, creating a bio-electronic ecosystem. Seed electronic images with file patterns visualization and labyrinths are projected with a green laser onto the living ants, tinting their own internal labyrinthine construction.
The residency took place in Espaço do Tempo, at Convento da Saudação, Montemor-o-Novo, from 3 to 14 December 2018. Resulting works will be showcased during early 2019 at Centro Ciência Viva, Pavilhão do Conhecimento, in Lisbon.
In this project, André Sier collaborated with Eduardo Sequeira, a biologist, expert in ants, that sells his own ant farms. Go check them out at Mirmex . Folks from Oficinas do Convento were also very helpful in letting us use their laser cutter for the ant farm fabrication.
